Shotwell Florist & Greenhouse is steeped in flowers year round, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate a good floral destination! Every spring and summer across the U.S., a crop of flower festivals and events unfurl, giving cities, towns and regions a reason to come together to celebrate some of their most beautiful assets, their flowers. Attending one of these events is a great way to engage with local culture, and it also falls under the purview of “experiential travel,” or, a trip you take to immerse yourself in another way of life. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the flower events you might want to make a trek to next year.
Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, Skagit, Washington
Ah, tulips! They’re such a signature bloom of spring. This month-long festival takes the form of a driving tour over hill and dale to see acres and acres of blooming tulips. But there’s also a salmon barbecue, group bike rides and much, much more.
California Poppy Festival, Lancaster, California
Antelope Valley’s 1,780 acres are awash in orange, yellow and red poppies in spring, which of course you can view any way you like. There are also tons of exhibits, performances, a farmers market and an auto show to mark the occasion, too.
Lilac Festival, Mackinac Island, Michigan
Nestled on Lake Huron, this island is literally like the land that time forgot (no driving here, just horse-drawn buggy). Over the course of ten days, this festival celebrates the lilacs that grow throughout the island, and concerts, foodie events and wine tastings help keep things festive.
Make it a floral event in your home when you return from your floral excursion and have Simply Purple waiting for you.
